Round 10 Match Report by Bomber

This was not only the last round of the year for us, but it was a celebration for a 200 gamer. It was Obie’s day. And his reward was to ruck one out all day 😊

We had some late outs before the game, but the team taking to the field was one of our strongest for the year. Trent played his first game for us along with a long-haired Junior Jr. We also welcomed back Justin who had a big impact in the forward line, and Kimmy returned home to honour the great man, Obie.

It was a slow start for the Warriors and this is where Port built a good buffer. The second quarter saw us fight it out and get multiple shots on goal, but sadly we went into the sheds with only 6 points to show for it.

The 3rd and 4th quarters were some of the best team footy we’ve played for the year, with plenty of contests won & great link up play moving the ball from one end to end. The new Krakouer brothers (Junior & Junior Jnr.) found each other with great success.

We put through 4 majors in the second half and took it right up to them. Trent scored and was getting under Port’s skin. Unfortunately, he got under the umpire’s skin too and was sent off!

To top it off, one of our most improved and consistent Warriors for 2025 copped a heavy hit, which was not in the spirit of the game. Pete B ended up in hospital with a badly broken collarbone. Thankfully his surgery went well. We all wish you a speedy recovery Pete.

Goals – Junior, Harley, Trent & Justin

Warriors: 31

Port Melb: 77

The Wrap

2025 was a tough year for us on the field. We lost players through retirement, injury and to clubs closer to home. On the positive side Harley, Jamie and the gang from Lyndale and Masala have been fantastic!! I really appreciate the effort they have put in to get players down to the club.

2026 needs to be a year that we build on what we saw in our last game. I know that I keep saying it, but numbers are the key. Think about the difference that numbers on game day would make when it comes to injuries and resting players. The difference it would make at training, allowing us to work on structures and set plays.

So, bring down your mates. If you don’t have any, bring down someone else’s mates!! Reach out to past players or kidnap someone from the pub or the gym!! Do what you can to get more people down to the club and let’s enjoy some success together. Our recent ads have attracted interest from at least 6 potential players. Let’s build on that and start 2026 strong!

Thanks

Thank you to every player who put on the Warriors jumper and busted their arse this year. The results were not flattering, but the spirit and the way that we handled ourselves was a credit to each and every one of you.

Thank you to Lou for the tireless effort in trying to get a team on the field every week and for sticking with us all the way through. It’s a thankless job at times but know that the work that you have put in is appreciated.

And once again, congrats to our milestone men in Lil Pete and Obie!!

Keep Fit and Stay Connected

For now, Monday touch footy will continue, so come down for some fun and keep fit.

Footy clubs are not just about footy. Being part of a community, having a laugh and a beer with our mates is why we keep coming back. Staying connected is such an important factor in good mental health.

Official pre-season training dates will be released in the coming weeks.
