Match Report: Round 5- Women’s over 35’s by Sunita

Date: 14 June 2025
Venue: Merv Hughes Oval-Footscray (Spurs home ground)
Team (Black): Sandra, Charlie, Sarah, Jen and Ren
Team (Yellow): Kirsty, Cathy, Suni, Suzie, Reyzl and Sue

This week we played at Spurs home ground. It was a cold and windy morning but the sun was out shining upon us. We had decent numbers for the game. It was Pride round, and we all were wearing Pride colours.

Team Yellow started with a Bang! Kirsty and Cathy managed to get clearance from Sandra, with Reyzl helping in the forward line, Cathy scored the first goal within the first 5 minutes.

Sandra, Charlie and Sarah were just unstoppable managing the clearances from the centre. Sarah was jlike a pocket rocket sprinting everywhere so fast that we couldn’t even get our hands on her for a “touch”.

Suni and Susie were defending well, but that didn’t stop Jen doing her magic of kicking goals for Team Black. Cathy and Kirsty were taking on Charlie, Sarah and Sandra in the middle to get the ball to Reyzl to kick soals. Susie was taking on Sarah and while defending they both skidded and fell and Susie twisted her ankle and was in great pain. She couldn’t move her legs and was taken off the Oval for the rest of the Game. With Susie off the ground, Sue filled in for her in Team Yellow.

Second half, with Suni at the goals….got a good clearance to kick straight to the goals but instead kicked to the opposite side – bummer…it was a good laugh for all! Sandra when not in ruck was still unstoppable alongside Sarah in the middle getting the clearance to get the ball to Ren and Charlie to do their magic. They both were on a roll, kicking goal after goal for Team Black. Kirsty and Cathy helped clear the ball to Sue to kick an awesome goal for Team Yellow. Reyzl was great at defence against Ren and stopped a few goals.

Final quarter, Sandra in the forward line was such a delight to watch. She was just kicking goals left, right, centre…some of her goal kicks even surprised her. Reyzl was great in the middle getting clearance for Kirsty and Cathy to score.

Overall it was a great game. We all displayed exactly what we learnt and practiced at training, with great hand passes, touch calls, kick to advantage and amazing kicks. Every game we have so much fun, learn so much from each other and have a good laugh. So glad to be part of such a fun team. Go Warriors!!!
