Men’s Over 35s Match Report – Louie
Sunday has come with a Typical Melbourne winter day, wind, rain, sun and feels bloody cold.

Our Grudge match against Dingley, the fellas had a bit of a spring in the step as we have come along way with the building of our 35s this year and coming off a big win against Box Hill.

The first qtr went off with a bang and putting 3 goals to nothing was a great start, David V slotting home 2 great goals and Brendon kicking another, the midfield was doing great, and the backline was holding and repelling anything that came down. Great efforts from our new player in Tyson who found the ball in middle and got it up field beautifully, Precision kick from David out of the back line and at goals was a delight to see. Jules was commanding the Centre again which awesome to watch. We did fall short on a couple shots at goals right on the line.

2nd Qtr we said we wanted to tighten up in the back to strengthen it a little, Benny in the Ruck was giving it his all and it showed as he was playing a great game so far.
Rhino, Harley giving there all as well in the mids, Junior got a chance to run in the mids and found the ball well. Dingley seemed to be not happy we were on top of them so far in the game as we slotted home another 2 goals in the qtr to their 1, we did miss a few on the goal line and scores ended on 5.6-36 to 1.3-9

Half time message was that Dingley were going to come at us hard, and now the ball and ground was wet, it’s was going to be scrappy.
The 3rd qtr was a scrappy affair. With that, and some lucky decisions, ball bounces, and goals just making the goal line, Dingley came out on top with a 3 goal turn around with us not scoring. Mids tried to contain and so did the back line but just couldn’t stop the flow.
Making so magnet flipping around due to some injuries which didn’t help the cause it ended on 5.6-36 to 4.4-28

4th qtr speech was again that Dingley had a spring in their step and where going to come at us hard, we lost some rotation in mids due to injuries but we gave it everything , JJ on one leg tried to summon the Hulk and was finally award free kicks but it wasn’t enough. Speedy Gonzales blew a calf and we lost drive there , also the kiwi machine Timmy also blew a calf. Jnr was just battling to stay on with his quad. We threw Micah into the ruck to spark something, but again Lucky ball bounces and Dubious decisions just could get us going and finding the goals we wanted, I think the missed opportunities in the first half came back to haunt us we went down by 9. 6.7-43 to 8.4-52

There was great effort all over the ground throughout the day, David floating from back line to slot home 3 goals, The Krakouer brothers in Battsy and Booma holding it up at the back with the help of Blake, Pete B, AJ, Lachie, Micah and welcome back Johnny. The Mids did awesome with the likes of Rhino, Harley, Jnr, Marko, JJ, Blake, Tyson who slotted a home goal on his debut, and Jules smashed it all day and was a real highlight to see.
Big Benny played a great game today, started in the Ruck even though he did get beaten, the other ruckman had to earn it. Benny then moved to CHF and CHB and he played well in all those roles. Our Forward line was great as much as it could they ended up have a couple extra down there to compete against, which made it hard to get clean possession Brendon slotted home 2, Adrian, Justin and O’bee all did well down there considering, also Wardy who had an awesome and sometimes courageous game.

Game of 2 halves and shows we can get it done against quality opponents and we will!

Women’s Non-Contact Footy Match Report – Sunita

Round 7 – Wow!! what a morning at Crispe Park! Freezing cold with showers. It was a long drive for some of us to our Game 7 in Reservoir. On my way to the ground I did have a thought in my mind that the game might get washed out! Maybe it’s the T20 Cricket World Cup, I was thinking — our match will be abandoned due to wet weather conditions. Too much cricket clouding my thoughts 😊…. It’s footy guys, game never stops no matter how wet the ground is, how heavy the rain is, the Game still goes on.

We were 14 players in total, 9 from our side and Port had 5. To even up the sides 2 Warriors Girls helped Port each quarter. Sue volunteered to Umpire, as our dear Bourkey was unwell. As soon as we finished our warm up and was time for the Ball up, came down the Rain. Warriors leaped into action, with Kirsty and Cathy trying to win the Tap from Sandra who was Ruck for Port. Great hand passes between midfielders weaving through the opposition, while the Ports defence stood firm and strong. Suzy’s skills were just exceptional, her speed and agility challenged the opposition to win the ball from her. Reyzl displayed some awesome kicks. Both sides were strong, it took a while for both the teams to score a Goal. Ren was so good in the Defence and she also kicked some Goals. There were some spectacular hand passes between all the players. Mich was again to her best performance with her speed and awesome skills of winning the ball all times.

Sandra as always was able to Tap straight to get the clearance. Abi was sensational in her ground tapping and winning the ball from the opposition. Cathy and Kirsty were so good in getting the ball to our goal side to our forwards. Suni and Reyzl displayed great defence making sure the ball didn’t reach the opposition.
Overall I thought this game we outplayed the Ports, with our awesome ball skills,hand passes, great marks and clearances. All the skills we learnt at the Training was demonstrated. It was very evident on the ground to see how much we improved as a Team.

Men’s Over 50s Match Report – Clint
After our fighting effort last game against Box Hill, there was plenty of positivity throughout the group leading into our Round 7 clash against Beaconsfield. Kenny had pre-game video footage for us to watch on the big screen, the chatter was up, and the drizzle hanging around Edinburgh Park seemed to be clearing.

Despite our best-efforts Beaconsfield got off to a flyer, peppering the goals throughout the first quarter with slick ball movement and strong running. Luckily for us their shots at goal were mostly inaccurate, keeping us in the contest. Bruiser, Eddie and Dave H were doing a cracking job of repelling the repeated attacks from the Beaconsfield mids.

In a huge loss to the Warriors, Matty D got crunched in the ribs and was forced to sit out the rest of the game. Carbo was valiantly fighting illness to stay on the park, but it was becoming increasingly difficult. With our team becoming depleted, the dam wall broke and Beaconsfield piled on the goals throughout the second and third terms. Magoo helped Carbo in the ruck, presented well and showed his class around the ground. There were clean patches of play with the likes of Rohan, Nails, Ari and Juls involved in several strings of repeat possessions for the Warriors. Pas, Pawsy and Dave C fought hard in and under, and Fitzy got clear several times on the wing. But Beaconsfield was fast, skillful and relentless.

As soon as the ¾ time siren sounded the frustration boiled to the surface from within the group. Eddie intervened, and wise words from him and Kenny helped settle things down. Eventually it was agreed that we need to stop taking potshots at our team-mates during the game, whilst increasing our accountability on the field.

Whether it was the elevated emotions or the moving of the magnets, our final quarter was a better one. Col ran and bounced through the middle before launching a torp to the top of the square. Juls drew a free kick for being tunneled and converted from 10 metres out for our first goal of the day.

Soon after big Robbie was rewarded for his tireless forward work presenting game-
in, game-out by clunking a strong contested mark in the pocket. He calmly slotted the goal and we all got around him.

Next Killer out-bodied his opponent on the fifty line, and with slick hands got the ball off to Sammy who glided towards goal and kicked straight for our third of the term. With just 22 seconds left on the clock the ball was thrown up in the middle for the last time. A Warriors kick out of the congestion flew down to centre-half forward where Jezza took a fantastic mark. Knowing that he was just outside his range he played on and threw the ball on the boot hoping for his second miracle goal for the season. The kick was straight, the distance just beyond him on this occasion.

It was a tough day for us, but a 3 goals to 1 final quarter showed what’s possible when we put it all together.
